Recent weather coverage has been alarming. It has included damage along the California coast, rising tides, flooding. Volcanoes erupting in Iceland. Not to mention the inconvenience of 1,200 air flights cancelled.
Scientists have overwhelming evidence that we humans (Californians! Butte County residents! Chico voters!) play a significant role in climate change. The good news is that we can also play a role in slowing it down.
Locally, we have a tremendous opportunity to make a difference by stopping the Valley’s Edge development. How? Read on. If Valley’s Edge is built out, Chico will not be able to meet its own goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The developer’s own EIR has stated this. Also stated is that 6,000 additional people will result in 23,000 (!) additional car trips a day. I’d like to add here that our invaluable Tuscan Aquifer is already in overdraft condition.
We can do our part in not only reducing greenhouse gasses, we can preserve this beautiful land as open space for biodiversity and aesthetic quality. Let’s act together for our children’s future, for wildlife and natural habitat. Stop Valley’s Edge. Vote no on O and P.
