OROVILLE — Officers with the Oroville Police Department arrested a 15-year-old boy after responding to reports that a 50-year-old woman was shot in the chest.
According to a press release issued Tuesday by the department, officers responded to the 3800 block of Roseben Avenue where they found the woman wounded on Monday. Officers arrested the boy the next day.
Officers went through home security footage and found three people in the area when the shooting occurred. Additionally, witnesses gave more details of the trio. The release said the boy who was arrested matched the description and had “an extensive history” with the department.
A search warrant was served at the boy’s home and found a fully automatic pistol with a suppressor as well as ammunition believed to be the same as that found at the crime scene.
When searching the home, the boy allegedly blocked himself off from officers, leading law enforcement to resort to “verbal de-escalation techniques.”
The boy was arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm, illegally possessing an assault weapon as well as a suppressor and firing at an inhabited dwelling.
A second person has also been identified in the shooting and police will pursue accessory charges, the release said.
The woman who was shot was reportedly in stable condition.
Those with information on this case are being asked by the Oroville Police Department to call 530-538-2444 for the department’s investigations unit to report what they know.
