Here are three fun things to enjoy in Butte County this weekend.

Music

Blues, soul and rock band Big Mo and the Full Moon Band performs at the Barn at Meriam Park in Chico on Saturday, March 9.

Big Mo has a big band sound rooted in the blues. He performs all original songs. His new CD “Torn” is selling worldwide and Big Mo and The Full Moon Band perform consistently in Europe, according to Meriam Park events. Big Mo has won many awards, including winning the prestigious Monterey Bay Blues Festival Battle of the Blues Band in 2004.

The performance takes place Saturday from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Barn located at 1930 Market Place. Tickets can be purchased at https://bit.ly/3wOCiA4.

Dance

A beginner-friendly West Coast Swing workshop takes place Saturday, March 9. All levels are welcome and you don’t need a partner to join. Class starts at 1 p.m. and participants can stay for the practice dance until 2:30 pm.

More experienced dancers are encouraged to take the Level I and Level II classes in conjunction with the practice. If you’re looking for a full brush up on your West Coast Swing technique, join for the whole workshop from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.  Tickets may sell out before the event. Purchase tickets on EventBrite to secure your spot. Visit https://shorturl.at/zVW59.

Tickets are $15 for one class and practice is $20, 2 classes and practice is $30 and the entire workshop costs $45. Practice only is $10 at the door. Pricing will increase by $5 at midnight before the event.

Location is the second floor studio loft at StandAlone MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Boxing and Fitness located at 848 W Ninth St. in Chico. The entrance to the building faces Ninth Street.

Storytelling

An evening of storytelling with the theme “Control” occurs March 8 and 9. There is one storyteller for each decade from the 1920s through the 1980s in this Moth-inspired event.

Bonfire is a multi-generational storytelling event held the first week of every month at the Chico Women’s Club at 592 E. Third St. in Chico. March’s theme is control and each person will interpret that in any direction they choose with a 10-minute personal story.

This event is created and hosted by local author and educator Bonnie Pipkin. Doors open at 6 p.m. There will be a no host bar with beer, wine and non-alcoholic options.
